Music for SSA Choirs - Fall 2020
Music for SSA Choirs
I'm pleased to introduce some new choral music for SSA choirs at the high school level and up. I know there are lots of different paths for instruction in the fall of 2020, but whether you are physically together and socially distant or if you are working in a virtual environment, I hope you will consider these pieces for 3-Part Treble voices.
All of these titles are available in print or digital from Hal Leonard or your favorite choral retailer and most have digital audio available for download, providing an excellent rehearsal tool for online rehearsal or distance learning.

Courage Calls To Courage
This year, 2020, marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted a woman's right to vote. The lyrics for this piece are based on the writings and speeches of several important women's leaders who helped make this a reality. I think that this music and message will really resonate with women of all ages, but especially the young!
Orphan Girl
This song was composed by Gillian Welch and recorded by the great Emmylou Harris and has a great country gospel feel to it. It can be performed with piano or piano/violin alone or use the guitar, bass and accordion ensemble parts to give it a real Texas flavor. We all feel like orphans right now, but we can still harmonize!
Joy in the Morning
One of my favorite treble Christmas pieces is "Christmas Dance of the Shepherds" by Zoltan Kodaly, primarily because of the piccolo obbligato. So, I was inspired to try my hand at piccolo with this wintry setting of a text from the children's book The Wind in the Willows. The recording you hear is a mixed choir, but the score is SSA.
