NEW UIL TITLES FOR 2022-2023 by Emily Crocker

Hello Texas Friends,

I'm delighted to announce several new selections for Middle School UIL. Since I moved back to Texas, I've been fortunate to judge several UIL and Pre-UIL evaluations and I noticed a lot of the same pieces being performed. So, if you would like some alternatives to "Love in Thy Youth" and "Sons of Art," here are a few new choices! All have been out for a couple of years, but now are PML listed. Hope you like! 😉 (TB listed first, scroll down for treble)

Tenor Bass - Grade 1

Cantate! - TB and piano (with opt. Tenor descant)

This energetic concert piece alternates Latin and English and has lots of teachable moments throughout, with accessible ranges and layered vocal lines throughout. For more info or to purchase

Over My Head - TB and piano (with opt. Tenor descant)

This arrangement is included in the printed collection "Music in the Air" or as a separate digital only single. This arrangement begins in a slow legato style and then moves into a faster gospel version. Easily learned! Available in print or as a digital single

Turn the Glasses Over - TB and piano (with opt. Tenor descant)

This arrangement is included in the printed collection "Music in the Air" or as a separate digital only single. Also known as "I've Been to Haarlem," the lyrics have been slightly adapted ("brandywine" becomes "lemonade"). The melody alternates between T to B and the setting includes young choir arranging techniques such as ostinato and countermelody. There is an optional 3rd part at the end that can be easily added or omitted. Available in print or as a digital single

Tenor Bass - Grade 2

I Want to Be Ready - TB and piano

This arrangement is included in the printed collection "Music in the Air" or as a separate digital only single. This traditional spiritual offers lots of opportunities for expression and musical growth, with melodies passing between tenor and bass, countermelodies and a supportive accompaniment. Perfect ranges for middle school TB! Available in print or as a digital single

The Colorado Trail - TB and piano

This arrangement is included in the printed collection "Music in the Air" or as a separate digital only single. This western favorite is great for choirs with more tenors than basses, offering lots of opportunities for demonstrating phrasing and expression. The baritone part is very simple and repetitive. Available in print or as a digital single

Treble - Grade 1

Cantate! - 2-Part Treble and piano (with opt. descant)

This energetic concert piece alternates Latin and English and has lots of teachable moments throughout, with accessible ranges and layered vocal lines throughout. For more info or to purchase

Laudamus Te - 2-Part Treble and piano (with opt. descant)

This one came out just before UIL was cancelled in 2020, so you might have missed it. It's a little more challenging, so good for Varsity groups, the Latin text, mixed meters and energetic syncopations will allow your treble groups to display their musical development. For more information or to purchase
