SOUND PATTERNS FOR THE BEGINNING CHOIR

Imagine - learning to sight read while having fun! Singers will grasp concepts quickly while singing “real music” from day one. This step-by-step method includes fun songs with lyrics, dynamics, and accompaniment, along with prepatory exercises that are interesting, authentic, and flexible. This resource may be used with beginners of any age. The sequential approach focuses on the keys of C, F, and G major, basic rhythms, and simple intervals in the tonic, dominant, and subdominant chords.

WHO IS THERE LIKE ME - Written for the 25th anniversary of the Milwaukee Children's Choir, this is yet another brilliant work by Emily Crocker. The text, based off of an old Winnebago saying, reminds us of the unique individuality and promise that each child carries. It's upbeat, melodious, and a joy to sing, with optional percussion parts also available.







J'ENTENDS LE MOULIN (I Hear the Windmill) - Now available in SA(T)B voicing. Hear the steady ticka-tacka of the mill wheel in this brisk setting of a French Canadian folksong. 





CALIBAN'S DREAM - In Shakespeare's play “The Tempest” Caliban is a character who is half human and half monster. In spite of his wild personality he nonetheless delivers the beautiful lines found in this text as if to show that all creatures are capable of knowing and expressing beauty. The music reflects this dichotomy with an energetic piano part along with contrasting vocal lines.



COURAGE CALLS TO COURAGE - The year 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which granted a woman's right to vote. The lyrics for this piece are based on the writings and speeches of several important women's leaders who helped make this a reality. The music is sturdy and strong and represents those women whose words inform this story.





JOY IN THE MORNING - Adapting a text by Scottish novelist Kenneth Grahame from the children's novel The Wind in the Willows here is a winter carol that captures the joy and excitement of children sledding and enjoying the snow.






ORPHAN GIRL - Here is a wonderful Appalachian style folk song written and made popular by Gillian Welch. Optional fiddle and accordion make this stylish and authentic. The violin part is included with the choral score.






SING OUT YOUR JOY - New SSA voicing! An impressive festival work, with contrasts of rhythm, dynamics, and style. A perfect concert opener.







GLORIA ALLELUIA - New TTB voicing! A rhythmic keyboard introduction sets the stage for your young men who enter quietly and with intensity. A steady crescendo results in a glorious climax as the men sing “Gloria” over and over. 





MUSIC IN THE AIR - Here is a collection of songs curated to appeal to young men. The ranges are perfect, the texts appropriate and the results are extremely positive. This is a real value. Includes 5 songs.

NEW UIL TITLES FOR 2022-2023 by Emily Crocker

  Hello Texas Friends, I'm delighted to announce several new selections for Middle School UIL. Since I moved back to Texas, I've been fortunate to judge several UIL and Pre-UIL evaluations and I noticed a lot of the same pieces being performed. So, if you would like some alternatives to "Love in Thy Youth" and "Sons of Art," here are a few new choices! All have been out for a couple of years, but now are PML listed. Music for Tenor Bass Choirs

  I'm pleased to introduce a couple of pieces for Tenor Bass ensembles - one is for changing voice choirs at the middle school level and the other is for high school groups.  I know there are lots of different paths for instruction in the fall of 2020, but whether you are physically together and socially distant or if you are working in a virtual environment, I hope you will consider these pieces for TB and TBB singers.  Both selections are available in print and digital editions also with demo and accompaniment audio downloads. Cantate! also has Part Predominant tracks available for audio download providing excellent rehearsal tools for in-person or distance learning. Young men like to be challenged and I hope these pieces will fit their voices and provide a creative challenge that will enliven the learning going on in your classrooms!
