J'ai vu le loup

This fast-paced French folk song dates back to the medieval era. Many versions of the song exist, and they all feature animals imitating humans by dancing, laughing, and singing. Similar to J'entends le moulin, the persistent rhythm and engaging vocal lines make this an ideal choice for developing diction, precision, and tone in younger singers while exposing them to the French language.

Fire and Ice

This poem by Robert Frost reflects on the end of the world, musing whether it might be consumed in fire or ice, and comparing the two elements with the emotions of desire and hate. The composer's music vividly captures the contrast of these elements and allows the singers to dramatically portray that struggle.

Gatatumba

This villancico is a traditional Spanish holiday song. The festive and happy tune has a memorable melody, and this delightful arrangement brings a simple harmony part that is ideal for beginning harmony singers. There are suggested rhythm patterns included for various percussion instruments or body percussion that your students will enjoy adding.

Since I moved back to Texas, I've been fortunate to judge several UIL and Pre-UIL evaluations and I noticed a lot of the same pieces being performed.
