Bill Withers "Grandma's Hands" for SSA

 

Bill Withers (1938-2020) was an American Soul and R&B singer, best known for his hits "Ain't No Sunshine," "Lovely Day," "Lean on Me" and more. 

His song "Grandma's Hands" was a tribute to his maternal grandmother, with whom he attended church as a child. He described the church singing as "spontaneous singing, there was nothing programmed. People got up and sang and everybody would join in. It was my favorite kind of singing."

The song describes his Grandma's strong, caring hands in this song from 1971. 

My arrangement offers opportunities for bluesy vocals with back up harmonies and heartfelt emotion. Perform with bass, guitar and light percussion for an authentic roots sound.

It's been another journey through a year of composing and arranging for me and a REWARDING trip it has been. I am branching out into different styles, different genres and different publishers.
